Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body in order to balance the body’s energy (“Qi”).  Thousands of years of empirical evidence and, more recently, a wealth of scientific research, have demonstrated its effectiveness for many conditions.

Our Registered Acupuncturist, Victoria Spaurel, is an experienced practitioner, who brings the wealth of traditional Chinese medical theory to her practice.  As well, all of our naturopathic doctors are board-certified to practice acupuncture, and have years of training and experience with it.  It is used in the treatment of a wide variety of health concerns.

Some of the concerns it is particularly helpful for are (list by no means exhaustive):

  • acup stock 1.jpgChronic sinusitis
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Nerve pain
  • Chronic pain
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Adjunctive treatment of addiction
  • Manic states in Bipolar disorder
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Menopausal Hot Flashes
  • Induction of labour in full-term, uncomplicated pregnancies
  • Cervical ripening in preparation for labour

People with bleeding disorders and with injection or needle phobias may not be good candidates for treatment.  As well, those taking blood thinners, such as Warfarin, may find that they bruise more easily during their treatment.  Please advise your practitioner if you are taking any kind of medication.
