Counselling and Psychotherapy

Here at Acacia, we believe that to be a fully integrative clinic, professional counselling is an essential part of the services we offer.

Counselling provides a safe and supportive place for people to process their lives.  Be it a recent trauma or loss, or a long-standing problem, a skilled counsellor can make an enormous difference in how a person or a couple works through these challenges.

Therapists are trained professionals, skilled in communication, who understand how people work through difficult feelings and events.  They help facilitate change.  In fact, they are experts in the process of change.  A relationship with a therapist can become a profound and deeply moving experience, one that makes life better, richer, and more satisfying.

Body-Centered or Somatic Counselling

Somatic Counselling offers two important elements to help you heal. There are the elements of traditional talk therapy that help you to understand what has happened and where to go from there. In addition, by maintaining a dialogue with you about what is going on in your body we can work with twice the amount of information, and often times the most present issues or feelings.

How Somatic Counselling Works:

By learning to be aware of the inner sensations in your body you can begin to re-train your nervous system and therefore become more peaceful and compassionate with yourself.  Working with a counsellor is a positive and safe socially engaged experience. You can heal old relational wounds and practice new relational skills.  Every skill you learn creates a new neural network in your brain. By thinking new thoughts, being open to new possibilities, and linking your awareness from your mind back to your body you are increasing your capacity for change simply by building more neural pathways.
