Intravenous Nutrient Therapy
Intravenous nutrient therapy is the infusion of vitamins and minerals directly into the circulation for replenishment or elevation to therapeutic levels. This safe and effective therapy has been found to be valuable in the treatment of: chronic digestive problems, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety, withdrawal from narcotics, asthma, migraine headaches, chronic infections (viral, fungal and bacterial), seasonal allergic rhinitis, chronic hives, as well as improving athletic performance and recovery after strenuous exercise.
At Acacia Integrative Health, Dr Pamela Hutchison has taken additional training in IV therapeutics and currently offers this therapy in the following forms:
Meyers Cocktail
This IV therapy formula consists of a mixture of calcium, magnesium, B vitamins, and vitamin C. It has been found to be effective in the treatment of fibromyalgia, acute muscle spasm, some specific subsets of depressed patients, fatigue and chronic fatigue, chronic sinusitis and other disorders.
Meyers’ Cocktail is a formula that can be altered to meet a specific client’s conditions and individual needs. Treatments may be needed 1-3 times a week, for several weeks, then less frequently therafter to maintain benefit.
Magnesium
Magnesium is useful for recovery from athletic performance, relaxation of muscles in spasm, asthma, tension headaches, migraine headaches, anxiety and panic disorders, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and more.
Glutathione
Glutathione (GSH) is a powerful antioxidant and is important in cell protection against free radical damage. It is also a cofactor for many enzyme systems, and plays a significant role in neurotransmitter synthesis through several prominent metabolic pathways. GSH reduces the pro-inflammatory potential of many substances released during the inflammatory process.
IV administered glutathione has a significant benefit in Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases. It protects nerve tissue after strokes and traumatic brain injury or in post-concussion syndrome. Dr. Perlmutter, a neurologist who pioneered the use of IV glutathione for neurological conditions, has reported marked benefits in cases of stroke, multiple sclerosis, ALS, and post-polio syndrome. Because of its role in neurotransmitter synthesis and regulation, IV Glutathione has been found helpful in some instances of depression.
As a potent cell protector, it also has uses in other degenerative diseases beyond the nervous system. Patients with diabetes, macular degeneration, cataracts, and heart disease may benefit from glutathione therapy.
Typically, IV glutathione will be given 1 to 3 times a week over 1-3 months for clinical benefit. Patients may return for maintenance treatments 1-3 times a month thereafter, and/or adopt a treatment plan designed to maintain their improvements over time.
The video below demonstrates the benefits of IV glutathione therapy in Parkinson's Disease.
To ensure the proper formulation of any IV therapy for each patient, and for patient safety, we require a 90-minute initial consultation (for new patients). We may request a baseline blood test before the first treatment.
NOTE: we may waive the 90-minute visit requirement for referrals from physicians as long as we can obtain proper laboratory tests and referral indications from the treating physician (ND, MD, Chiropractor) – please contact the clinic directly for more information
