Constitutional Hydrotherapy

When the circulation to the overlying skin is stimulated, a reflexive reaction occurs.  Contrast between the alternating temperatures cause an increase to blood flow in the internal organs, stimulating the body's self-healing mechanisms by improving the oxygenation and circulation of blood and lymph.

An initial visit will consist of an assessment by the Hydrotherapy Technician, answers to your questions and a discussion about the treatment.  A urinalysis is performed to assess your specific gravity (hydration); blood pressure and pulse are also taken before and after your treatment.

Your hydrotherapy treatment is offered in the Cedar Room, where water and towels are readily available. You will undress and lie on the treatment table face up, under the sheet.  Your Hydrotherapy Technician will re-enter the room, answer any final questions and begin your treatment.  Hot towels are applied over your chest and abdomen and you are then snugly wrapped in a sheet and covered with several layers of blankets.  Once your skin has warmed, a single cold towel will replace the heated one and you will be re-wrapped until the cold towel warms.  The procedure is then repeated on your back.

Regular hydrotherapy treatments promote healthy digestion, absorbtion of nutrients within the body's cells and the restoration of the nervous equilibrium.  Strengthening the body's immune system and natural defences encourage detoxification and resistance to environmental pollutants.  This internal reaction is responsible for the continuing and cumulative effects of a series of hydrotherapy treatments.
